The course covers similar material to what students have studied in Years 9 and 10: creative and formal writing, the study of literature (such as novels, poetry, short story, film) and unfamiliar texts and speeches. We offer 6 Achievement Standards - 3 of which students gain from work they do in class (internally assessed) and 2 standards which are assessed externally. (While all standards will be covered in the syllabus, students choice in consultation with the teacher will determine their learning pathway).
The goals for this course are to gain 15 credits towards achieving Level 1 NCEA. Students will develop the knowledge and skills needed to communicate effectively through creating visual, verbal and written texts. They will also develop the knowledge and skills needed to understand and interpret visual, verbal and oral texts.
This course leads to a University Entrance approved subject.
