Course Description

This scheme is based on a variety of Achievement Standards and Unit standards. Students are able to select the standards they wish to complete. This enables students to choose the standards that best suit their needs. At least 3 units of work should be completed during the year.

Students new to this subject may also choose to complete Achievement or Units standards from the Level 1 and Level 2 courses.

This course will offer learning experiences in the following:

Unit Standards:

6699            Prepare for and make a garment for a formal occasion.

6702            Prepare for and make a tailored coat.

6701            Prepare for and construct a garment using special fabric.

 Achievement Standards

91621          Implement complex procedures using textile materials to make a specified product.

91622          Implement complex procedures to make a specified product using a Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) machine.

91623          Implement complex procedures to create an applied design for a specified product.                  

91626          Draft a pattern to interpret a design for a garment.

If a student achieves 14 Level 3  Achievement standard credits in this course it will be counted as an approved subject for University Entrance. 

This course is a University Entrance approved subject if entering Achievement Standards, not if entering Unit Standards.


Contributions and Equipment/Stationery

This course requires students to purchase their own fabric, pattern and notions to complete 3 garments that they take home.

$35 for notions of take home component supplied by department (interfacing, overlocking thread, needles, fabric samples etc).

3 clearfiles/folders are needed.


Recommended Prior Learning

There are no prerequisites for this course but study of this subject at Year 10, 11 and 12 is an advantage.

* Only students engaged in learning and achievement derived from Te Marautanga o Aotearoa are eligible to be awarded these subjects as part of the requirement for 14 credits in each of three subjects.
