NCEA Level 1 Product Design: Hard Materials - Metal

Course Description

This course follows on from Year 10 and leads to Product Design courses in Years 12 and 13. This is an Achievement Standard course.  Students will follow a design process to solve an identified issue and present and justify their solution.  Students will make products using traditional hand tools and CAM (computer aided manufacture) working predominantly with Metal.

The Standards covered in this course are the same, or similar to, those covered in the Wood course.  You cannot do both.

Students will complete a maximum of 21 credits and the course will be designed to suit the needs and interests of the individual students.

Contributions and Equipment/Stationery

$70 at the start of the year and extra materials consumed will be calculated at the end of the course for the take home component.

Recommended Prior Learning

Level 5 or 6 for Year 10 Technology or by consultation with HOD.

11MTM and 11MTW are similar courses that cover many of the same standards, it is not possible to do both.

This course or 11MTW needs to be taken if you intend continuing with this subject at Level 2 (Year 12).
