Course Description

Food and Nutrition is about the complex interconnection between physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual dimensions of people's lives.  They will explore Māori and Pacific knowledge bases, values and practices related to hauora and wellbeing.  Through Food and Nutrition ākonga can learn about how kaitiakanga, manaakitanga and whanaungata contribute to the hauora of individuals, whānau and communities.

In the subject ākonga develop an understanding of current issues related to food, nutrition and health and learn about how a range of factors influence wellbeing.  This learning can help ākonga understand what contributes to healthy relationships and develop strategies to strengthen their sense of identity and self-worth.

Most ingredients are supplied by the department; however, students may be asked to supply some ingredients if individualising recipes.

Access to a keyboard device is an advantage for this course.

For NCEA Levels 1, 2 & 3 courses will be made up of a selection of the stated standards. This will happen at the beginning of the year with the assigned teacher.
