Course Description

Recommended Prior Learning

A minimum of 12 Level 1 Science credits, at least 8 credits at Merit level (including AS90940) or above, or in consultation with Head of Science. 

It is highly recommended that AS91027 is Achieved with Merit to support the Algebra requirements in this course.

This course needs to be taken if you intend continuing with this subject at Level 3 (Year 13).

Content/Skills:

  • Practical skills and physical relationships;
  • Light and waves;
  • Mechanics (motion, forces, momentum, energy);
  • Electricity and magnetism; and
  • Atomic physics.


This course leads to a University Entrance approved subject.


Field trip: One day trip to University of Canterbury.


A course of 16 credits will be selected from the standards listed below.
