Course Description

This course is designed to support students for whom English is an additional language.  They will continue to develop the reading, writing, information literacy and verbal skills necessary to function effectively in school and as participating members of the community  and/or in the pursuit of study. Students complete the unit standards required for Level 1 literacy as well as a variety of achievement and unit standards which are all internally assessed. This is a flexible programme which caters for individual needs and strengths. 

The goals for this course are for students to gain literacy at Level 1 and gain at least 14 credits towards achieving Level 1 NCEA.

This course leads to a University Entrance approved subject.

NCEA Level 2 English Language Studies

Recommended Prior Learning

This is for bi-lingual students (those who speak two languages).

This is an intensive English course which combines standards from English Practical classes and achievement standards from English courses. Students set goals and develop their own learning plan in consultation with the teacher.

Note: current national review of standards may result in changes to the course.
