NCEA Level 2 Geography

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: J. Bennett.

Geography is the study of Earth's landscapes, peoples, places and environments. It is, quite simply, about the world in which we live. It seeks to interpret the world and how it changes over time and explain relationships and connections between people and the environment. Essentially geography is unique in bridging the social sciences (human geography) with the natural sciences (physical geography). This course covers aspects of physical and human geography.

Study and assessments include:

  • Conducting geographic research (at the Mt Cook National Park);
  • Evaluating the modern day issue of freedom camping and the impact that it has on people and the environment;
  • Conducting a geographic study of the South Island High Country; and
  • Evaluating the global topic and applying to a selected case study.

This subject leads to a University Entrance approved subject.

Field trip: 2 days at Mt Cook National Park.

Recommended Prior Learning

Previous experience and success in Year 11 Geography is highly recommended, or by consultation with HOD Geography.
