NCEA Level 3 Outdoor Education
Course Description

Outdoor Education at Level 3 is a course designed for students who have a passion for outdoor activities. A willingness to take part in physically demanding outdoor activities is a must as they are a compulsory part of the course.
Using a range of local resources this course would allow students to gain 20 credits in a range of outdoor settings. Students would learn a range of life skills such as teamwork, leadership, self-management, self-responsibility etc.
The course will involve some co-construction with students and therefore activities cannot be predetermined.
Possible activities are tramping, camping, navigation, ABL, rafting, kayaking, mountain biking, sailing and rock climbing.
This is a UE approved subject.
Recommended Prior Learning
It is recommended that students have completed Outdoor Education in a previous year or 12ped. If a student does not have the recommended prior learning an interview will take place to check suitability for the course. Where required, attendance and behaviour from previous year will be used to determine placement.
Contributions and Equipment/Stationery
The course is curriculum based so trip costs are covered by the school. For overnight trips there is an optional koha to cover accommodation costs.

Number of credits that can be used for overall endorsement: 15
Only students engaged in learning and achievement derived from Te Marautanga o Aotearoa are eligible to be awarded these subjects as part of the requirement for 14 credits in each of three subjects.

For NCEA Levels 1, 2 & 3 courses will be made up of a selection of the stated standards. This will happen at the beginning of the year with the assigned teacher.
