Year 10 Design & Visual Communication

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: K. Backhouse-Smith

Course Aims:

Students build upon the skills learnt in Year 9 and apply them to new design opportunities.  This year's course becomes more specialised and there is an increased opportunity to blend traditional pen and paper design with new technologies like CAD (Computer Aided Design) and CAM (Computer Aided Manufacture).  Students will increasingly use Vectorworks and Solidworks CAD packages.  Students will have exposure to creating products from laser cut parts.

Course Outline:

  • Students will be given the opportunity to build on the skills introduced in Year 9; and
  • Units of work could include House Design and Product Design.

This subject is essential for students who wish to study Design and Visual Communication at Level 1.

For NCEA Levels 1, 2 & 3 courses will be made up of a selection of the stated standards. This will happen at the beginning of the year with the assigned teacher.
