Year 10 Food & Nutrition
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: L. Ferguson
This course offers 4 units of work that will provide students with the knowledge and skills so they can make informed judgements about the food they eat as growing teenagers. It also allows students to design and make food items from scratch in safe and hygienic conditions. Students will also investigate how other cultures have influenced the foods eaten in New Zealand today.
This course will offer learning experiences in the following:
- Food safety and kitchen hygiene.
- International foods.
- Eating as a “grazing” adolescent.
- Design, make and market your own food product.
- Weekly food practical sessions are included to develop food preparation skills and confidence.
Access to a keyboard device is essential for this course.
Contributions and Equipment/Stationery
Some ingredients are supplied by the department; however, students will be asked to bring some ingredients as well.
$24 for the take home component supplied by the department (ingredients).
A 1B4 is needed.
Disclaimer
For NCEA Levels 1, 2 & 3 courses will be made up of a selection of the stated standards. This will happen at the beginning of the year with the assigned teacher.
