NCEA Level 1 Materials Technology: Fabrics
Course Description

This fabrics course is a course of study, which requires candidates to express ideas in practical terms using selected materials and the processes of technology, and applying principles of craftsmanship.
This course will offer learning experiences in the following:
- Sew Basic. Make basic pattern adaptation to a pattern by taking key body measurements and selecting correct pattern pieces. Undertake basic adaptation of a pattern and construct a mockup to test.
- Weathering the Elements. A look at design elements and why people wear clothes. Design a garment suitable to meet the needs of the brief. Complete a plan of action to make the garment. Produce a prototype. Evaluate the outcome.
- Sew On. Demonstrate understanding of the techniques and procedures used to construct garments by implementing basic procedures to construct a garment or product.
Contributions and Equipment/Stationery
This course requires students to purchase their own fabric, pattern and notions to complete 3 garments that they take home.
$35 for notions of take home component supplied by department (interfacing, overlocking thread, needles, fabric samples etc).
3 clearfiles are needed.
Credit Information
Total Credits Available: 24 credits.
Externally Assessed Credits: 4 credits.
Internally Assessed Credits: 20 credits.
