Trades Course

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: K. Backhouse-Smith

This course is designed to give students an incite into the exciting opportunities relating to the Trades.  It will run across 3 option lines and the assessment will be based on Building and Construction Industry Training Organisation (BCITO) Unit Standards in Wood, Graphics/Maths and Competnz (industry training organisation) Standards in Metal work.  This course also includes work experience in a range of trades organisations.

Students that opt for Trades will have to complete 3 options in 3 different option lines.  Trades Wood, Trades Metal and Trades Graphics.  Entry onto the Trades course is by selection; an interview will be arranged.  A maximum of 16 students will be selected.

Trades Wood:  This course will require students to complete several skills-based projects.  All units of work contribute to BCITO Unit Standards.

Trades Graphics: Trades Graphics gives students the opportunity to apply mathematical processes, sketching, formal drawings and interpreting working plans to trades situations.  Students will then apply these skills to produce working drawings to build an outdoor project.

Trades Metal: Students will complete metal-based projects in engineering.
