Year 12 Gateway
Course Description

Content/Skills:
- Provide students with the opportunity to "test drive" their career choices in a real workplace, gaining valuable "real" experiences and learning; and
- Gateway placement one day or part day per week for a minimum of 10 days - usually one school term.
This course does not lead to a University Entrance approved subject.
Students study an individualised learning plan with Industry-based Unit Standards that contribute towards their NZQA Record of Learning. Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) has an expectation that students will achieve a minimum of 20 credits.
Places on the Gateway programme are limited to 45.
Recommended Prior Learning
For entry to this course students must complete an application form and attend a selection interview with the Gateway Coordinator.
Students must be motivated to learn in the workplace, have a strong interest in a particular industry or career direction and be able to manage individualised learning and assessment. Reliability and an excellent attendance record are also required.
Disclaimer
For NCEA Levels 1, 2 & 3 courses will be made up of a selection of the stated standards. This will happen at the beginning of the year with the assigned teacher.
