NCEA Level 3 Materials Technology: Furniture

Course Description

Content/Skills:

  • Drawing up working plans; and
  • Basic carpentry including making cabinet

This course builds upon the Year 11 Building course and the Year 12 Applied course.  Students design and make a project using BCITO Unit Standards.  

This is not a University Entrance approved course.

Students will complete a maximum of 24 credits and the course will be designed to suit the needs and interests of the individual students.

The Level 3 Building, Construction and Allied Trades Skills (BCATS) Unit Standards require students to undertake a "stage 3 BCATS project" as evidence for assessment.  The nature of the project will depend on student interest and resources available.  It must be completed in the school working under teacher supervision.

Recommended Prior Learning

10 credits in Level 2 Materials Technology or by consultation with Head of Faculty.

Contributions and Equipment/Stationery

Families/whānau can be charged for the cost of materials when they have agreed that item can be taken home. This cost will be advised at the start of the course.
