NCEA Level 2 Art - Photography
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: K. Watkins.
Students will learn to use specific photography processes and techniques to produce a fluent body of work involving making individual, related works that are critically selected to form a series or sequence in the generation, development, clarification and regeneration of ideas within the art making process.
Key Learning Outcomes:
- Critical Selection and Use of Photography Processes: Students will master specific photography techniques and conventions to achieve artistic objectives, utilizing digital tools like Photoshop.
- Artistic Composition: Explore elements such as line, shape, space, colour, tone, texture, form, and mass, applying principles like balance, harmony, rhythm, tension, and contrast to demonstrate artistic proficiency.
- Photography Drawing Methods: Experiment with various methods including sketches, compositional notes, proof sheets, working prints, photograms, collage, montage, and traditional photographs.
- Understanding Conventions: Gain insight into the characteristics and constraints specific to photography as an art form.
- Contextual Exploration: Explore diverse environments including galleries, museums, natural landscapes, studios, publications, and digital platforms to broaden artistic perspectives.
Course Outcome:
By the course's conclusion, students will have developed a refined portfolio that reflects their growth as photographers.
Contributions and Equipment/Stationery
A suitable device (laptop) is strongly recommended.
Students also need their own good quality digital camera, SD card and external hard drive.
