11MTW

NCEA Level 1 Materials Technology: Product Design - Wood

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: S. Stephen

This is a year long course and is primarily wood based, although students can integrate other materials into their projects. The majority of standards offered are Achievement Standard based and assessed through a design folio.

Students will develop their own ideas by following the design process and then plan and manufacture their outcome.

As a guide, students who work efficiently to complete their work will have the opportunity to complete a second project of their own choosing. This is also partly dependent on the composition of the class.

This course is more challenging than 11MTB as it requires students to complete and design their own projects.

Recommended Prior Learning

Year 10 Materials Technology or by consultation with HOD.

11MTW and 11MTM are similar courses that cover many of the same standards, it is not possible to do both.

This course or 11MTM needs to be taken if you intend continuing with this subject at Level 2 (Year 12).

Contributions and Equipment/Stationery

Families/whānau can be charged for the cost of materials when they have agreed that item can be taken home. This cost will be advised at the start of the course.
