NCEA Level 1 Materials Technology: Fabrics
Teacher in Charge: A. Bowis
- Sew Basic - make basic pattern adaptation to a pattern by taking key body measurements and selecting correct pattern pieces. Undertake basic adaptation of a pattern and construct a mock up to test.
- Weathering the Elements - a look at design elements and why people wear clothes. Use design ideas to produce a conceptual design for an outcome to address a brief. Carry out testing and research to plan and produce a prototype. Evaluate the outcome.
- Sew On - demonstrate understanding of the techniques and procedures used to construct garments by implementing basic procedures to construct a garment or product.
A student who wishes to achieve Course Endorsement in this subject must complete the optional external assessment AS 91053. Please note that students must get a merit or excellence in the external to gain Subject Endorsement.
Contributions and Equipment/Stationery
This course has a practical component which requires students to design 3 of their own garments. To realise their designs students may choose to purchase their own fabric, pattern, notions etc or they may use items supplied by the school. There will be a take home cost to cover some of the materials supplied by the school.
Total Credits Available: 25 credits.
Externally Assessed Credits: 3 credits.
Internally Assessed Credits: 22 credits.
Further assessment opportunities will not be offered for this standard inline with NZQA guidelines
For NCEA Levels 1, 2 & 3 courses will be made up of a selection of the stated standards. This will happen at the beginning of the year with the assigned teacher.
