NCEA Level 1 Materials Technology: Building

Students will follow a mainly practical course and complete Building and Construction Industry Training Organisation (BCITO) Unit Standards. These Standards are excellent preparation for building apprenticeship. This course also leads into the Trades course in Year 12.
This course will not give students the prerequisite for Year 12 Achievement Standards.
- Designed for students who may consider going into Trades;
- Developing the use of both hand and machine based equipment;
- Develop practical skills in both wood and metal; and
- Students will be given set tasks to make, with only very limited design and written work expected.
This course does not lead to a University Entrance approved subject.
Students will complete a maximum of 21 credits and the course will be designed to suit the needs and interests of the individual students.
Contributions and Equipment/Stationery
$70 at the start of the year and extra materials consumed will be calculated at the end of the course for the take home component.
Recommended Prior Learning
Level 5 or 6 for Year 10 Technology.

For NCEA Levels 1, 2 & 3 courses will be made up of a selection of the stated standards. This will happen at the beginning of the year with the assigned teacher.
