Year 10 Materials Technology: Fabrics

Content/Skills:

You will develop a passion for problem solving, develop your creative skills and be innovated when working with textiles.  You will learn to express ideas in practical terms, apply skills of craftmanship, correctly use a range of tools and equipment as well as further development of your skills when using a computerised domestic sewing machine.

This course will offer learning experiences in the following:

• Learn basic sewing skills before exploring the creative techniques possible on the sewing machine
• Undertake basic fabric research and learn how to prepare and use a commercial pattern
• Learn how to carry out simple techniques and processes using the tools of the trade
• Students will be introduced to simple design features and construct basic garments
• You will demonstrate an understanding of the design process and basic concepts used to make textile items by design, producing and evaluating pyjama pants, hoodie or sweatshirt, and another item of your choice
• You may also learn about the basic functions of a CNC embroidery machine and include these embellishments in your designs

This course leads to a University Entrance approved subject.
